I designed and painted the illustrated belly mural while my sister created the woodland-inspired makeup and costume, bringing the character to life for an intimate maternity portrait celebrating the upcoming arrival of baby Max. Creating these paintings has become one of my favorite forms of storytelling. They capture a moment that lasts only a few weeks, transforming it into a permanent memory for a growing family.
Body painting is one of the most personal forms of storytelling I’ve explored. I’ve had the privilege of creating several belly painting portraits over the years, and each one feels like an honor. These pieces exist for only a brief moment before disappearing forever, making every session a celebration of a unique milestone in someone’s life. This portrait was created for a close friend as she prepared to welcome her son, Max, inspiring a Where the Wild Things Are theme that reflected the excitement and adventure of beginning a new chapter. Through illustration, makeup, costume, and photography, these collaborations preserve a fleeting moment as a lasting work of art.
